I discovered Pilates in my twenties while struggling with a chronic back injury that threatened to end my dance career. Within six months, I went from worrying I would have to retire to the strongest I’d ever been. The Pilates approach to integrative, full-body movement and awareness fascinated me and I decided to delve more deeply into the training. I was certified as an instructor by Ellie Herman in San Francisco in 2000 and continued to work at the studio she founded for 22 years.
My own experience lead to a special passion for helping others to recover from injury. I completed my rehabilitation certification with Lizz Roman in 2001. Over the years I have furthered my movement education with Tom Myers, Eric Franklin, and Jennifer Stacey, among others. I have extensive experience with injury rehabilitation, sports-specific training, pre and post natal training, and general fitness. Pilates helped me thrive through my pregnancy and recovery from the birth of my daughter, and extended my performing career into my fifties.
My goal has always been to bring humor and joy to my teaching. I enjoy both the energy and community of group classes and the specificity and focus of working with clients one-on-one. I want to help my students use their Pilates practice to support what they do in their lives outside the studio, and tailor sessions to what each person’s body needs that day. I moved to the Hudson Valley in 2022 and have been enjoying rediscovering the beauty of the Northeast.
“Chris has been the first person to give me a feeling of control over how my body feels each day. From the very first lesson, she inspired trust and confidence in her approach. She has a deep understanding of body mechanics, but never gets ahead of what my body is able to do.”
